B'ville girls lax roars past C. Square, Liverpool

Moving into May, the Baldwinsville girls lacrosse team was all set to defend its no. 1 state ranking against the increased set of challengers.

When the Bees hosted Central Square last Tuesday night, it was able to do whatever it wanted during a 22-2 destruction of the Red Hawks.

B'ville had 17 goals in the first half alone, allowing everyone on the roster to see some time on the field.

Jen Fabian, with three goals and five assists, and Quincey Spagnoletti, with two goals and three assists, served as the anchors. Kara Moschetti found the net four times, while Becky Guzzo matched Fabian's three-goal output.

Katie VanDeValk had two goals. Erika Bulken earned a goal and three assists as Maddison Frink, Mackenzie Kjerstad, Katie Sullivan, Samantha Yaro, Bridget Florack (two assists), Sarah Clark and Meghan Cuddy scored, too.

On Friday, the Bees met Liverpool and, for the second time in less than a month, handled the Warriors with an 18-11 victory at Solvay's Earl Hadley Stadium.

Here, it was close for a half, as Liverpool stayed within two, 7-5, pushed there by Marybeth Madia and Jennifer VanderMeulen, who finished with five and four goals, respectively.

Gradually, though, the Bees' depth would prove too much as it got away in the second half. In particular, Spagnoletti caused a lot of damage, working her way to seven goals and adding an assist.

Behind her, Kjerstad and VanDeValk each put up three goals, with Moschetti adding two goals and one assist. Bulken had a goal and two assists as Fabian and Guzzo also scored and Frink earned an assist.

So that made it 11 wins in a row for the Bees, who hosted Penfield (Section V) Monday and meets Rome Free Academy Thursday night before a Saturday visit to Fayetteville-Manlius.
