Once again those two wrestling buddies Joseph Brown and Brett Huggler took to the road to represent the Canastota Youth Wrestling Club. This time the challenge came in the form of the Brute Nationals held in Rochester. Why only two? Well, just like the title of the event, this tournament was a brute.
With the tag of National, it would only figure that competitors would come from across the country to contend. The boys from Canastota knew full well that their chances were pretty slim of placing, but the allure of top notch competition must have pushed some buttons for these two boys.
Timing is everything and for Brown going to this tournament couldn't have come at a worse time. Brown had already pre-registered and sent his money in, but during the week leading up to this he came down with the flu. In spite of that he still went and did his best to give a good account of himself. Unfortunately the competition was overwhelming and in the end Brown came up short of placing.
On the other hand there was Huggler who had not expected to place. After all he is only in his second year with the program and most of those wrestlers out there had been taking it to the mat since they started walking. In spite of that, Huggler did manage to have five matches altogether. Of his wins, his best outing was an 8-3 decision and in the end he made his way to the podium to receive a sixth place trophy.
Back closer to home there was another tournament going on. This one was held at Fulton and as it turned out this was not a piece of cake either. Two more boys from the squad decided to ply their skills and see what the outcome would bring to them. They were the brothers, Andrew and Ben Marshall.
