B'ville appoints new Canton Woods coordinator

Canton Woods regulars will notice a new face at the senior center next week.

The village board has appointed Ruth Troy as the new senior center coordinator and she is scheduled to begin work March 23.

"I'm very impressed with this individual," Mayor Joe Saraceni said.

Troy's experience includes employment at Syracuse Home, planning social recreation programs to senior residents at Morris Management Country Club apartments, serving as the director of adult daycare programs for the Salvation Army and as the senior citizen program coordinator for the town of DeWitt. She has a master's degree in social work with a concentration in gerontology.

"I'm impressed with how she views the senior population and how she sees the possibilities that exist at Canton Woods," Saraceni said.

Troy underwent interviews with the village labor relations committee, a second committee comprised of representatives from each town and the village, the mayor, the president of Canton Woods seniors and the board chair of Canton Woods. According to Saraceni, everyone was impressed.

"I'm very excited to be your candidate of choice," Troy said to the village board. "I'm looking forward to an exciting new chapter at Canton Woods."
