Lent celebration underway in B'ville

St. Mary's volunteer Caroline Rocco makes tuna fish sandwiches, while Jeanne Comerford places them in the fridge for the Lenten Luncheon series, which kicked-off this past Friday at the First United Methodist Church. St. Mary's hosted a lunch of tuna fish and egg salad sandwiches, soup and cupcakes after the 12:05 p.m. meditation led by the Rev. Paul Dreher-Wiberg from Plainville Christian Church.

Church Women United of Baldwinsville and the Baldwinsville Ministerial Association will sponsor the 2009 Lenten Luncheon Series at 12:05 p.m. every Friday during Lent with a meditation in the First United Methodist Church. A 12:30 p.m. lunch in the dining hall will follow the meditation. This Friday's meditation speaker will be the Rev. Philip Turner (Christian Missionary Alliance) as speaker and First Presbyterian will host lunch.

Upcoming dates:

March 13 features Pastor Joe Folckemer (Hillview Baptist Church) as speaker and Grace Episcopal will host lunch.

March 20 features Rev. Joseph McGarry (St. Mark's Lutheran Church) as speaker and Hillview Baptist and First Baptist will host lunch.

March 27 features Jeff Hodge (First United Methodist Church) as speaker and First United Methodist will host lunch.

April 3 features Rev. Shirley Meyers (retired) as speaker and Little Utica Methodist and Plainville Christian Church will host lunch.

April 10 there will be a Good Friday service at noon at the First Presbyterian Church (no lunch).

A collection of canned goods, paper and soap products for the Food Pantry will take place each week (special mission project of Church Women United) and there will be a bakeless bread sale on April 3, in which all donations will benefit the local Meals on Wheels program and the Food Pantry.
