At last, a playground

On June 4, Reynolds Elementary School held a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the installation of new playground equipment.

Reynolds' students have been without playground equipment for three years after the school's two playground structures were dismantled due to safety issues. For two and half years the school's PTA has held various fundraisers, including three spring musicals, candy and cookie dough sales, and bottle drives to raise money for a new playground structure. With the help of students, parents, staff and the community, the school raised approximately $35,000 by March 2009 to purchase the equipment, which volunteers installed at the end of May.

The following people served key roles in the playground project: Diane Oad, playground committee chair; Andrea Goodale, playground committee co-chair; Olivia Cambs, principal; Steven Frey, previous principal; and Heather Speach, Janet Bednarz and Gina May, who were PTA presidents over the course of the playground project.
