Valley rallies to host free outdoor concert

On Monday June 29, the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra (SSO) will present an all-American lineup of patriotic musical selections at a free outdoor concert held at Green Hills Market, 5933 South Salina Street in Syracuse. Led by Principal Pops Conductor Ron Spigelman, the concert will begin at 7 p.m. and include memorable songs by George Gershwin and John Williams, in addition to patriotic favorites including Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture and Sousa's Stars and Stripes Forever. This event is part of Summertime with the Syracuse Symphony, presented by National Grid.

"We are thrilled to be able to finally perform at Green Hills, given that inclement weather forced us to cancel last year's concert," added Karen Gahl-Mills, president and executive director of the SSO. "We exist to serve our community, and it is gratifying to see a community's continued support and determination to bring the music of the SSO to the Valley."

Valley businesses, organizations, individuals and patrons of the arts joined Green Hills to bring the music back to the Valley after a 20-year absence. According to Heather Hawkins, whose family has owned and operated Green Hills Market since 1934, "It has been amazing to witness the energy and excitement of our Valley communities working

cooperatively together, spearheaded by dedicated volunteers, on numerous projects for the betterment of our neighborhoods."

Additional groups responsible for helping to arrange the SSO performance are Webster's Pond Neighborhood Watch Group, The Valley Men's Club, Bob's True Value, The Saunders Group, Gannon's Ice Cream Shop, Network Chiropractic, CNY Glass Block Company, Humanity in Unity and many others who are directly responsible for helping to re-energize Valley spirit, and for making this concert a reality.
