Lenox approves zone change

The Lenox Town Board approved a zone change request on Route 5, west of the village on a recommendation by the town planning board. The request was for 6.2 acres to be changed from RA1 (Residential, Agriculture) to BG (Business General) for business owner David Rasmussen to allow for business development. A portion of the parcel is already BG zoned, 1.8 acres will be used for egress and ingress only.

Tube run estimates

Doug Havens, supervisor at the Lenox Skate Park submitted to the board estimates on start-up costs for a proposed tube run in the township. Havens suggested a seven-lane tube run. The one-time purchase of 50 used tubes, two new snowmakers, a winch system and small office building he estimated would cost $10,510. Staff, tables, concessions and utilities would cost another $10,000.

Havens said the town could charge $5 a day each day the run is open and if only 25 people a day used the facility for four months, the annual revenue would be around $6,000.

"You wouldn't see a profit until after five years," Havens said.

Town Supervisor Rocco DiVeronica said 25 users a day was probably a low figure, anticipating more people would utilize the run.

"We'll ask the village about leasing that hill behind the Industrial Park," DiVeornica said.
