Pio Carranti is the son of Tom and April Carranti. He has one younger brother, Joe, who is a sophomore at West Genesee, a step-mother, Maryann Roefaro, and two step-sisters, Casey Franz, a junior at RPI and Angela Franz, a junior at West Genesee. Pio is named after his grandfather.
Pio has always tried to challenge himself and has chosen a rigorous course load, along with various extracurricular activities working part-time. Pio will graduate as an Advanced Placement Scholar with Honors after taking six Advanced Placement exams over the last three years. He will receive a Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation with Honors and is a member of the National Honor Society. Pio earned nominations to the United States Air Force Academy.
In addition to his academic achievements, Pio has participated in many extracurricular activities throughout his time spent at West Genesee. He has served as the Outdoor Club's vice president his sophomore year and as president both his junior and senior years. Pio was a member of the 2009 undefeated Wildcats varsity swim team and section III champs. He swam for four years and made sectionals his last two. He was chosen to attend Boy's State at SUNY Morrisville the summer of his junior year. Pio was also a member of this year's Academic Decathalon team, which placed second at the state level. Pio took home medals in math, interview, language and literature, and placed third overall. Pio has worked as a lifeguard for both the town of Camillus and Nob Hill Apartment Complex.
Pio will be attending Purdue University in the fall of 2009 to study astronautical engineering on an Air Force ROTC scholarship and hopes to one day become a pilot and astronaut.
Kathryn Hess is the daughter of Timothy and Stephany Hess. She has a younger brother, William, who is a freshman in the high school.
