MHS students stage "The Grocery Plot"

The level of talent, creativity, and entertainment were simply exceptional as students from Marcellus High School Drama Club staged "The Grocery Plot" on May 22 and 23 in the Aitchison Auditorium at Driver Middle School. More than 75 students were involved in the play that was written, directed, and produced by Daniel Poorman, Class of 2010. Dan Isgar, Class of 2010 wrote, arranged, and conducted the musical score for the performance.

Monies raised from the production are being donated in support of Nicole (Piper) Adams and her family. Adams graduated from Marcellus High School in 2000 and underwent surgery for a brain tumor in June of 2007. Nicole is still confined to a wheelchair and she communicates through the use of a letter board. Her family works with her each day to continue her recovery and her daughters Amanda and Piper visit her frequently and know how much she loves them. Act one of the play "set up the story of the play's antagonists and their ploy to conduct a 'human experiment' in an old , abandoned, Benny Hannah's grocery. Act One zeroes in on the lives of the ten lead characters, their connections, and most importantly, their flaws." Act Two of the play was set entirely in Benny Hannah's grocery. The 10 main characters wake up to "mystery, suspense and hilarious chaos."

"The Grocery Plot" is based on a novel written by Poorman. The novel and play concept have been approved as an early senior project. Dan has been involved in a variety of Marcellus High School drama and musical productions and he has "lent his voice" to many books-on-tape under Full Cast Audio, a local company founded by Syracuse author Bruce Coville.
