Tip leads to stolen handgun

Working on a tip that a subject named Shane Williams (18 yrs) of 238 Bryant Avenue was in possession of a loaded handgun and often keeps it in his waistband when he hangs around in the 1000 block of S. Geddes Street, Det. Kevin Birardi spotted Williams on the sidewalk in front of 1024 S. Geddes Street at 6:26 last night (7-14-09). When Williams spotted the police he immediately reached into his waistband and attempted to flee into the residence.

Det. Birardi ordered Williams to dropped the weapon, which he now had in his right hand. Williams hesitated for a moment, then dropped the gun on the front porch of 1024 S. Geddes Street.

Williams was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2ND degree and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the 4TH degree.

The gun, a Ruger .22 caliber revolver was reported stolen from Auburn on Feb. 28, 2009. It was fully loaded.
