Lysander woman dies when struck by vehicle

An early morning accident has claimed the life of a Lysander woman.

At approximately 2:40 a.m., sheriff's deputies responded to Route 48, just north of Kellogg Road, to investigate reports of a woman being struck by a vehicle. Deputies report that Melissa Larose, 31, of 8876 Oswego Road, was laying in the roadway when she was struck by a 2002 Ford F-150 pick up truck, operated by Robert Malone, Jr., 34, of Oswego. Deputies investigating the accident report that Malone was driving home from work with two of his coworkers.

As Malone traveled north on Route 48, he unexpectedly observed Larose laying across the roadway and was unable to stop or avoid hitting her. Malone immediately stopped his vehicle after striking Larose and contacted the 911 center. Rescue crews from the Plainville Fire Department responded to the scene where Larose was pronounced dead.

Members of the Sheriff's Accident Investigation Team will conduct a complete investigation. No tickets are expected to be issued to Malone at this time.
