In response to Gov. Paterson's June 8 controversial announcement, appointing Richard Ravitch as lieutenant governor, Syracuse Mayor Matt Driscoll said he applauds the governor's "bold move to break the log jam created by the senate's impasse."
"The senate's inability to pass important legislation impacts the fiscal health and well-being of the people of the state," Driscoll said.
Paterson's announcement came the same day the governor was scheduled to attend a fundraiser/belated birthday party, hosted by Driscoll, to be held at the home of longtime Democrat supporters Dodie and Dean Vlassis in Fayetteville.
Driscoll's spokeswoman Sheri Owens said the mayor completely understands the reasons behind the cancellation. At this time, the fundraiser has not been rescheduled.
