B'ville student receives music education award

Margaret Hannon, a fourth-grader at Van Buren Elementary School, has received The Shamballa Caf (c)/Music and Arts Educational Award.

Emmet Simpson, owner of the caf (c), presented Hannon with the award on June 19 in honor of her active participation as a clarinetist in the district's elementary band program. The award is given to a fourth- or fifth-grader at Van Buren who has participated in the band program for at least one year and has rented or borrowed an instrument while taking lessons.

The award is a $100 gift certificate to be used toward the purchase of a new or used instrument from the Music and Arts Center. It was created by and is funded by Shamballa Caf (c) and the Music and Arts Center. Hannon is the first recipient of the award.
