In preparation for the upcoming Aflac Iron Girl Syracuse Women's Triathlon, local female athletes will have several opportunities for a practice swim of the 800 meter course at Oneida Shores Park under lifeguard supervision. Starting Thursday July 9, athletes can swim the course from 6 to 7 p.m. every Monday and Thursday evening through July 23, weather permitting.
The first annual Aflac Iron Girl Syracuse Women's Triathlon will take place at 7 a.m. on Sunday July 26, based at Oneida Shores Park. Hosted by Onondaga County Parks in conjunction with the Syracuse Convention and Visitors Bureau, this event features a sprint distance course composed of an 800 meter swim, 30 kilometer bike and 5 kilometer run. This is the only one of 10 national Iron Girl competitions that will be held in the Northeastern United States, and may draw nearly 1,500 women of various age and fitness levels. The beach is open 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. with weekday admission $4 per vehicle, weekends $5.
