Holy Cross pastor named diocese vicar general

Bishop Robert J. Cunningham of the Syracuse Catholic Diocese appointed Monsignor Robert Yeazel as vicar general. Yeazel succeeds Rev. Thomas J. Costello who served as vicar general for more than 30 years.

A vicar general assists the diocesan bishop in the governance of the entire diocese.

Yeazel, who has formerly served as chancellor, vicar for priest personnel and regional vicar, is currently, and will continue to be, pastor of Holy Cross Church in DeWitt.

"I am honored and humbled to be asked to become vicar general by Bishop Cunningham," Yeazel said. "With much joy and happiness, I look forward to serving our bishop, laity, priests and religious as we together continue to bring the Lord's love and presence to all in the diocese."
