Joseph A. Mashtare and Max F. Rancier, both of Oneida were arrested after a two-month investigation into residential Burglaries in Oneida and Herkimer Counties.
Rancier, 26 of 332 Broad St. and Mashtare, 34 of 413 Lenox Ave., apt. 1 have been charged with one count of second-degree burglary, a class "C" Felony and Mashtare was also charged with violating parole from this arrest. Both have been arraigned in Oneida County and remanded to the Oneida County Jail without bail.
The investigation began in December 2008, when law enforcement agencies began taking complaints of daytime, forced entry residential burglaries in Oneida and Herkimer Counties.
At least twelve residents were broken into in the months of December 2008 and January 2009 during the daytime hours. The defendants ransacked these homes stealing as much as possible, including wrapped Christmas presents. These defendants broke into the homes stealing items and damaging personal property.
The investigation continues in Marcy, Herkimer and Oneida in conjunction with the Oneida County Sheriff's Office, the City of Oneida Police Department and the Town of New Hartford Police Department.
