Cicero: Man injured in truck-pedestrian accident

Onondaga County Sheriff Kevin E. Walsh reports that Sheriff's Deputies are investigating an afternoon truck--pedestrian accident.

At approximately 11:42 a.m., the Onondaga County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a truck--pedestrian accident reported on Lakeshore Road, near Maple Drive, where a FEHER Rubbish Removal garbage truck, operated by Paul J. Bialobreski (30), of Syracuse, struck a pedestrian.

Deputies report that the Bialobreski, who was picking up trash in the northbound lane of Lakeshore Road, began

backing up his garbage truck when he struck James Piazza (64), of Maple Drive in Cicero. Piazza, who was walking northbound on Lakeshore Road was knocked down and ran over by the truck's rear tires and became trapped between the dual axles.

Rescue crews from the Cicero, North Syracuse and South Bay Fire Departments responded to the scene and immediately began extricating Piazza from the beneath the truck. Within 60 minutes, rescue crews were able to free Piazza and transport him via ambulance to University Hospital, where he is in stable condition.

Accident investigators will continue their investigation and report that no tickets have been issued at this time.
