Driver charged in Troop K Road fatality

David Brounoff, 25, of 4479 Swissvale Drive in Manlius, was charged with failure to yield, a traffic infraction, from a Dec. 11 car/pedestrian fatality that happened outside the Cavalry Club on Troop K Road in Manlius. The tickets were issued Jan. 9, according to District Attorney Frank Pelosi.

A Jamesville couple was struck by Brounoff's Subaru Forester while crossing the road to reach the club's main parking lot. James R. Stone, 75, was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife was taken to Upstate Medical Center where her condition had been upgraded from critical to fair. She has since been discharged, according to SUNY Upstate officials.

Brounoff, who was heading southeast towards Route 173, said he had looked down to turn on the defroster and didn't see them until it was too late.

The investigation is still pending, Pelosi said.

A court date has not yet been released.
