B'ville: Creative expression on bullying

Ray Middle School held a creative expression contest in recognition of No Name-Calling week, which was observed nationally the week of Jan. 26. Students were encouraged to submit entries in the form of poems, essays, songs, videos, music and artwork, expressing their feelings about bullying, harassment and name-calling. The contest was sponsored by Ray's Bullying Prevention Committee to create a dialogue on ways students can end bullying in the middle school.

Winners of the contest are (from left) Gabrielle Piraino (music video), first place; Dana Norton (poem), second place; Emily Kick (poem), third place; Katie Schumacher, fifth place (short story); and Carolee Emmi and Tess Minardi (poster), sixth place. Not pictured is fourth place winner Tom Eckel (poem).
