Marcellus girls win at Empire State Games

Four young women from Marcellus recently competed in the Winter Empire State Games in Lake Placid and all came home with something to show for their efforts.

Ellen Brayer, Erin Driscoll, Haleigh O'Sullivan and Taylor Rescignano competed in the Ladies Individual Figure Skating and Synchronized Skating during the games Feb. 20 to 22. All competitors are attending Marcellus High School.

Brayer, 18 and a senior at the school, competed in the Ladies Open Novice Free Skate to finish first and win the gold medal. Brayer also skates on the Blue Water Blades Synchronized Skating Team and hopes to continue skating in college.

Driscoll, O'Sullivan and Rescignano, all Marcellus freshmen, competed in the Intermediate Synchronized Skating event and brought home silver medals. The three girls are members of the CNY Blizzard, a synchronized skating team that practices in Cicero.

Brayer and Driscoll will be performing in "Ice Dreams 2009 -- One Hit Wonders," an annual show sponsored by the Skaneateles Figure Skating Club and held at the Skaneateles Community Center. The show will be at 7 p.m. Friday March 27 and 2 p.m. Saturday March 28.
