Van Buren Man Charged in shooting

Onondaga County Sheriff Kevin E. Walsh reports that detectives charged a Van Buren man in connection with Saturday's shooting.

Mariusz Burchacki, 32, of 1245 Kingdom Road, was charged yesterday evening with assault in the second degree, reckless endangerment in the first degree and endangering the welfare of a child after shooting his ex-wife Michelle Fox, 28, also of 1245 Kingdom Road.

Detectives investigating the incident report that Burchacki, who lives with Fox, was demonstrating the differences between two shotguns when the discharge took place. Fox sustained a severe facial wound and was airlifted to University Hospital by the Sheriff's Office Air-1 helicopter.

An acquaintance of Burchacki and Fox was at the couple's home at the time of the incident along with the couple's two children and the acquaintance's two children, who were not injured.

Burchacki was lodged at the Onondaga County Justice Center after being arraigned in the town of Van Buren Court on Sunday where bail was set in the amount of $50, 000 cash or $100,000 bond. He is scheduled to return to court on Feb. 27.
