Abscope Environmental Inc. of Canastota has received national recognition with a 2008 Environmental Business Journal Business Achievement Award. The EBJ awarded Abscope its Silver Medal in the category of remediation contracting.
"We are very proud of this recognition as the culmination of 20 years of excellence in the environmental industry," said Abscope President and Cazenovia resident Jack Romagnoli. "It is an achievement that honors the hard work and safe practices of our dedicated team."
The award recognizes businesses nationally for performance in what has emerged as challenging times for the environmental industry, according to EBJ publisher ZweigWhite.
Abscope was recognized for continuing to expand its leadership in environmental remediation construction.
Founded in 1989, the 62-person firm has seen increasing profits while broadening its geographic reach beyond the Northeast into Illinois, Missouri, Maryland and Washington, D.C.
According to company officials, a significant growth driver is Abscope's work at former manufactured gas plant sites, with a $7 million remediation project begun in 2007 and expanding in 2008. Other projects have included a 60,000-square-foot asbestos removal project completed in 70 days at an occupied health care center and an ongoing $18-million cleanup at a former chemical plant in New York state.
"The key to our success has been solid, old-fashioned client service, combined with innovation and technological advancement," Romagnoli said.
The award will be presented Feb. 20 at an environmental industry conference in San Diego.
