Van Buren Fire Service Study

Van Buren officials have hired RFG Associates at a base cost of $5,900 to conduct a study of town-wide fire services.

The study will help determine whether the consolidation of fire services in the town of Van Buren would be more cost effective than the way the town is now operating. It will focus on how service is provided, what can be done better, mechanisms to bring the fire services together whether through joint fire districts or combining of fire protection districts and a variety of different options.

There are currently four districts serving Van Buren: Warners, Memphis, Baldwinsville and Lakeside fire departments. According to Van Buren Supervisor Claude Sykes, these four districts' costs are rising annually and the town needs to determine whether there is a better way to provide fire protection services.

The town has also applied for a grant to pay for a study.
