Team sought for medical mission

Greg Wright, a physician's assistant at Oneida Healthcare Center, has just returned from Nicaragua where he participated in his third medical mission sanctioned by the United Methodist Volunteers in Mission. A nursing coworker, local pharmacist and a teen daughter joined Wright with a team from Illinois. This year, another nurse and doctor joined the Central New York contingent of the group.

Putting together a Central New York team is the next step on Wright's journey of providing medical care to the poor of Nicaragua. That group will travel to Nicaragua in the first quarter of 2010.

There is expected to be 23 medical and non-medical members of the "away" team. Several openings are still available.

It takes many more people to collect the supplies and medications, coordinate several phases of actually getting the team off the ground, assisting at fund-raisers and other behind-the-scenes work. Area residents and sponsors are valuable and welcome members of the home team.

An organizational meeting for this mission will be held Saturday Feb. 21 at 1 p.m. at United Church, 144 Center St.
