Valentine's Day is one of those special days reserved for spending time with a loved one. At Niles Gourmet, Sandie Becker wants to help lovers celebrate the occasion with a rustic Italian meal prepared and cooked on the shops old fashion woodstove.
"Everything is from scratch," she said, adding it's "handmade organic."
Handmade is the right name for the fare she prepares -- even the pasta is made fresh. The food is all natural and organic and by cooking it on the woodstove foods are given a different taste.
"Doing it on the woodstove gives it a much more rustic taste," Becker said.
The woodstove has even made a name for itself and was featured in the magazine Edible Finger Lakes recently. At the end of this month Becker and the local eatery will also be featured in Life in the Finger Lakes magazine.
For the third annual Valentine's Day dinner, Becker is planning an all Italian meal because "people just love Italian." The menu also lends to her heritage, which she says causes everything she makes to come out tasting like an Italian delicacy. For Becker, the food is really the key ingredient for spending the holiday at the restaurant.
To accompany the food, Auburn musician Chris Farrar will play the acoustic guitar for those dining at Niles Gourmet.
On the menu, Becker has planned to cook vegan foods along with venison braciole, osso bucco (veal shanks) and lobster fettuccini. Desserts include cr me brulee, chocolate tortes and panna cotta. The shop is open from noon to 7 p.m. Wednesday to Sunday. To make reservations, call Becker at 784-5015.
