LOTE food festival in B'ville

Seventh-graders (from left) Madison Whitney, Grace Santaro and Caryn Salce sample treats from several countries during Ray Middle School's LOTE food festival held in late January. The program featured several mouth watering desserts from France, Germany and Spain designed to immerse students in the culture of the countries they're studying. LOTE Teacher Kathleen Pallotta showed students a pan full of magdelenas, a Spanish breakfast treat similar to a lemon muffin. Besides magdelenas, the menu featured pain au chocolat, a French croissant with a chocolate-raspberry filling, German black forest cake and kuchen and Spanish cheese empanadas.
