An apparent suicide of an inmate at the Madison County Public Safety Building around 2 a.m. this morning has launched an investigation.
Michael York, 44, was found unresponsive by corrections officers during cell checks. He was treated at the scene by members of the Oneida Fire Department and Vineall Ambulance Service. York was then transported to the Oneida Healthcare Center were he was pronounced dead.
York's body has been transported to the Onondaga County Medical Examiners officer awaiting an autopsy.
The office of Sheriff Ronald Cary has notified the state Commission of Corrections to have a routine independent inmate death investigation performed.
York was incarcerated on a second-degree criminal sexual act, a class D felony. He was awaiting sentencing.
