Van Buren's 100 acts of kindness

Van Buren Elementary School first-graders (from left) Jillian Doucette, Nora Penhollow and Amar Roy proudly stand in front of their classroom's 100 Acts of Kindness poster with food items that the school's first grade team is collecting as an act of kindness for the community. Since the beginning of January, each class of first-graders at the school has been working hard to perform 100 acts of kindness, which they will keep track of until Valentine's Day. The students are making an extra special effort to be kind in order to carry out Martin Luther King's dream of peace and kindness among Americans. Parents, family members, friends, staff and students have been sending in notes regarding an act of kindness they have seen a student perform. The notes are posted on giant hearts outside of all of the first-grade classrooms.
