Saturday's final matched WG against Massena, the team that knocked off the Wildcats in an overtime epic in the 2008 state finals in Utica.
Perhaps still remembering that outcome, the Wildcats tore through Massena 6-0, its fifth shutout in seven outings. A 1-0 lead broke open when WG got a trio of goals in the second period as the defense held Massena to just six shots.
Lewis took his turn with a three-goal hat trick, while Holzhauer, Kurz and Josh Duquette scored, too. King, Lynch, Bubnack, Schattner, Ryan Michel, John Sabert and Seamus Shanley all had spots in the assist column.
Solvay would get a split of the week's action in Division II West. The Bearcats visited long-time rival Skaneateles last Wednesday night and took a 7-3 loss to the Lakers.
This game was close for a while. Carmen Birenza scored twice, both off feeds from Mark Syron, who recorded the other goal as Solvay was within one, 4-3, through two periods.
Despite this, and despite Ryan Bonk's 28 saves, the Bearcats watched Skaneateles draw clear with a trio of unanswered goals in the third period. Packy Jones hurt Solvay the most, finishing with three goals and two assists.
Other than a trip to Cortland/Homer this week, the Bearcats are off, while WG plays Liverpool at State Fair Coliseum and hosts Potsdam.
