Back for a second round of action at SUNY-Cortland, the Jamesville-DeWitt indoor track and field team nearly pulled off another sweep in Saturday’s CNY Indoor Track Association event.
With 102 points in the morning session, the girls Red Rams blitzed a field that included second-place CBA, who had 48 points, and Fayetteville-Manlius, who was fifth with 32 points.
Eileen Cody gave J-D a win in the 1,500-meter run in a time of 5:13.43 as CBA’s Michaela Gildemeyer (5:26.17) took second place.
Cody’s teammate, Marae Tearney, was victorious in the 55-meter dash, holding off Corcoran’s Angelice Tearney, 7.79 seconds to 7.82, while Paige Morrow tore to victory in the 800-meter run in 2:33.76, beating the field by more than four seconds.
Danielle Doss, Liz Pieri, Katy Pieri and Linsay Royer worked together as J-D won the 4×500 relay in 4:23.70. J-D was also second (1:55.99) in the 4×200 relay, inches behind Corcoran, who won in 1:55.66.
In field events, Katy Pieri (7 feet 6 inches) and Doss (7 feet) went 1-2 in the pole vault, while Liz Pieri got second in the high jump (5 feet) and Margaret Fuller was third. Sierra Vasillou won the shot put with a toss of32 feet 10 inches.
CBA had its top moments, too, including Katie Brislin earning first place in the 300-meter dash in 45.98 seconds and second in the 500-meter run.
Moving to the boys meet at Cortland, J-D picked up 67 points, beating everyone except Tully, who won with 89 points. CBA was sixth with 24 points.
David Salbert, on his own, won the triple jump, going 43 feet 11 inches as Tim Kendrick finished third. Salbert, Ira Griffin, Will Sterriker and Eric Semmel got together and won the 4×400 relay in 3:40.77, nearly 20 seconds clear of runner-up West Genesee. Bumkuth Jiak prevailed in the 800-meter run in 2:05.46.
The Rams saw Griffin take second in the 55-meter dash in 6.95 seconds, while Semmel got second in the 55-meter hurdles in 8.65 seconds. Matt Spalding was third in the shot put, tossing it 39 feet 7 inches.
As for CBA, Tom Voorheis was second in the mile in 4:48.57, beaten only by Tully’s Ohure Sam (4:41.26). Matt Giannino was third in the 500-meter run in 1:12.46, and Brendan Smith took third (2:15.35) in the 800.
