The student's of Cazenovia High School's Sports and Entertainment Marketing classes would like to invite you to Cazenovia Community Night at the Syracuse Crunch at 7:30 p.m. Saturday Dec. 19 as they play host to the Albany River Rats. Miss Kayla Calkins, the business teacher, has her students working on promoting the game as part of their final project for the course.
The future marketing wizards are doing everything; making posters, flyers, video commercials, PA announcements, scheduling mascot appearances, and even reading to the elementary students who are a huge part of their target market. If you have been in town recently you have probably noticed that they are even working closely with local businesses such as Subway who are handing out information on the event in their take-out bags.
An important key aspect of this project is its charitable contribution. Students get to choose a charity to which they would like to donate 20 percent of the profit generated from ticket sales. It was a unanimous decision that their contribution go to Taylor Matt, a senior at Cazenovia High School who is currently battling a relapse of leukemia. The Cazenovia school district and student body as a whole have done much to help Taylor through this tough time and they feel that is yet one more way to show their support to her and her family.
As yet another added bonus, those members of the Cazenovia Community who attend the game will have a chance to win a signed hockey stick from a possible future NHL player. The game will also be opened up by members of the middle school and junior-high choir singing the national anthem.
Tickets, which only cost $10, reduced from $17, can be purchased at the Burton Street, Middle School, or High School main offices; or by calling Kayla Calkins at 655-1370 ext. 5230. So come, join your friends, family and community for a fun-filled night at the Syracuse Crunch!
