Clay woman dies in morning car crash

Motor vehicle accident update

Onondaga County Sheriff Kevin E. Walsh has released further information on this morning's motor vehicle accident on Route 57, just north of Wetzel Road in the town of Clay.

As previously reported, this morning at approximately 9:18 a.m., Onondaga County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a two-car crash. The MVA involved a 2005 Ford Freestyle, operated by Lisa Turo, 41, of 6804 Ebury Ct., Clay, was struck by a 2009 Mercury Mountaineer, operated by Dieanna L. Mercurio, 39, of 6305 Mustang Road, Baldwinsville.

Witnesses told deputies that Turo's vehicle crossed into the path of Mercurio's Mountaineer that was traveling north on Route 57. Unable to stop her vehicle, Mercurio crashed into the rear passenger side of the Freestyle forcing Turo's vehicle to spin around before coming to a rest in a culvert on the East Side of Route 57.

Turo was pronounced dead on the scene while her son Justin M. Geary, 20, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, was transported to University Hospital. Mercurio sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital.

It is unclear at this time what cause Turo's car to cross the northbound lane of Route 57, as members of the Sheriff's Accidents Investigation will continue their investigation.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash and no tickets have been issued.
