Wildcats battle to hockey tourney title; Solvay goes 1-1

Carmen Brienza emerged with a three-goal natural hat trick, while Tom Missert got the other two goals. Mike Sniffen had two assists as Nick Manobianco, Will Downs and Len Graf got assists. Goaltender Ryan Bonk stopped all 21 shots he faced for the shutout.

In the championship round on Saturday against Clarence (who beat B'ville 4-3), the Bearcats got shut down in a 2-0 loss to the Red Devils.

Bonk was superb, making 36 saves, but Clarence used goals in the first and third periods, plus a solid defense, to finish in front.

WG plays Cicero-North Syracuse Tuesday at Shove Park before its first road trip of the season, a weekend two-game trip to Saranac and Massena. As for Solvay, it visits Skaneateles on Wednesday before hosting Watertown IHC Friday night at State Fair Coliseum.
