Skaneateles indoor track opens at Morse meet

The Skaneateles girls sprint medley relay closed out the indoor track season opener with a winning effort at last Saturday's Jack Morse Relays held on the SUNY-Cortland campus.

Racing in the afternoon session, Victoria Sakal, Eileen Ford, Amanda Gray and Cassie Berg got together and, in a time of 4:33.30, easily prevailed as Jordan-Elbridge was a distant second in 4:47 flat.

Also grabbing points, for a team that consists of more than 25 rookies, was the third place finish of the 4x800 relay with Carly Strods, Aly Davis, Jane Gaffney and Emma Ford carrying the baton. Together, they posted a time of 11:25.68.

The two-athlete high jump relay also grabbed third with good efforts by the Ford sisters, Eileen and Emma, who combined to clear 8 feet 8 inches.

Blair Gage, Amanda Gray, Ellis Van Slyke and Dani Mazzeo raced well to grab fifth in the Distance Medley Relay while the Laker 4x200 team of Sakal, Grace Kelly, Sophie Gorman, and Cassie Hall nailed down fourth place.

In the field events, the 2-thrower shot put team of Erica Tardiff and swimming star Sarah Sawyer threw to a fifth-place finish. Tardiff, a star on the soccer and softball fields, placed fifth individually with a toss of 28 feet 5 inches in her first track competition.

Junior Tim Lewis was the sole male entry in the meet and he took second in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet 10 inches in his first indoor track meet.
