Special guests will be making an appearance at the 26th annual Share A Caring Christmas Dec. 12 at Nye Automotive Group in Oneida.
"It's exciting this year because we did a get a call from Santa up in the North Pole and he's planning to come with Mrs. Claus. And this year he's bringing a couple of reindeer. We don't know which ones but he's going to bring them," event organizer Carol Neveu said.
Neveu added that Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive on an Oneida fire truck, after which they will be greeting children and handing out candy canes.
Involved with the event since its debut, Neveu said people just can't help but to get into the Christmas spirit after being at Share A Caring Christmas.
"It's a wonderful feeling of community spirit," she said. "I think that's why I've been committed fro 26 years."
According to Neveu, the event is more than just a chance for children to meet Santa, it's an opportunity for them to learn a life lesson.
"The concept was to try to teach children that Christmas is not just about what they want but that maybe toys they have in their boxes, they could gather them and they would be able to go kids that might not have anything for Christmas. It's wonderful to see that they have a bag full of toys," she said.
Donations of new or used toys in good condition are distributed through the Oneida Salvation Army. Neveu was sure to point out that they toys go to families in the local community. Families are required to fill out and application so that the Salvation Army knows that the toys are going to families in need in the community.
"It's not like giving a toy and not knowing what happens to it," she said.
