CBA athletes begin practice on new turf fields

Renovations to Athletic Facilities Are Phase I of $10 Million Capital Campaign

After months of anticipation, student-athletes at Christian Brothers Academy took their first steps on two newly-turfed athletic fields Aug. 17 as junior varsity and varsity practice sessions began for the fall sports season.

The renovations to the athletic facilities include installation of turf, a refurbished track and a renovated press box inside CBA's John G. Alibrandi Stadium; installation of turf and improved drainage on the junior high athletic field; and upgrades to the softball field.

The project is Phase I of CBA's To Be the Best Campaign, which has raised more than $10 million to date to increase the school's endowment, renovate academic facilities, improve the athletic fields and sustain CBA's Annual Fund.

"As the players walked out onto the field for the first time, you could see the look of amazement on their faces," said John "Buddy" Wleklinski, CBA athletic director. "There were big smiles and lots of 'wows!' from both the students and their parents, as they got their first look at the new fields. It was a very special day and one these athletes will always fondly remember. We look forward to the upcoming season and to all the exciting athletic events that will happen on these fabulous fields this year -- and for years into the future."

Christian Brothers Academy will hold a formal ribbon cutting ceremony at 6:15 p.m. Friday Sept. 18 prior to the school's homecoming football game versus Baldwinsville at 7 p.m. A special To Be the Best program to honor CBA athletes -- past and present -- and donors will take place during half time.
