The following Town of Lenox Board notes are from the monthly meeting Monday Aug. 10.
The Canastota Volunteer Fire Department has requested to have the board budget for more hydrant markers with the winter season approaching. With increased snow coverage, fire hydrants are less visible especially near the lake. There is some room in the budget to produce a few markers at this time, but there will be some funding for the markers in the 2009-10 budget.
Lenox will continue to share assessing with the towns of Lincoln and Stockbridge at a 98 percent equality rate. The town receives money back from sharing the assessment fees through the CAP program.
With further review form the town council, the board will soon decide on retirement and medical policies for all town workers during the next board meeting.
The board discussed the completion of the water contamination testing in District 11 and the final payment will be made. The District 11 testing was done at an estimated $160 per unit, and had some grant funding. Now, the Brennan Water Group is said to be the candidate for the District 12 water testing. Town of Lenox Supervisor Rocco J. DiVeronica said that the board is working on getting stimulus money to fund this project.
"It's very important that we don't have contaminated water in the town," DiVeronica said. "We will do well testing without extra cost to the residents."
The town residents in each district currently pay a user fee included in taxes for such testing.
The board also signed the Pollsite Agreement with Madison County for upcoming elections.
The next board meeting will be at 7 p.m. Monday Sept. 14 at town hall.
