Madison County farm diversification

On Tuesday Aug. 25 Cornell Cooperative Extension of Madison County will host an on-farm tour and discussion about diversifying farm businesses. The tour will be held at Canaseraga Farm located at 2323 Route 5 in Chittenango. The gathering will begin at noon and will conclude at approximately 2:30 p.m.

Cooperative Extension hosts Pete, Michele and Griffin Henry, will describe their farm operation, which includes a 70-cow dairy, a full complement of field crops, plus their well known roadside stand. Three years ago, the Henrys added a greenhouse to raise tomatoes. The family is continuously upgrading the stand's display area and adding to their product line.

A business consultant from NY FarmNet will be present to explain the business planning and networking services of the statewide organization that's uniquely suited to meet the needs of NY's farming communities. The public is welcome to attend this afternoon farm tour.
