Janet Wojnovich may have been the only participant in Canton Woods Senior Center's inaugural zumba class, but she certainly looked as though she was enjoying the dance-exercise program.
Wojnovick followed the lead of instructor Lee Pomeroy as the two line-danced across the center's dining area accompanied by upbeat, rhythmical music. Pomeroy brought the 45-minute dance and exercise program to seniors last Wednesday and will return at 3:15 p.m. every Wednesday beginning Aug. 26 to continue the fun.
"[Zumba] is a low-impact exercise for our mature participants," said Joan Ferstler, assistant director of Canton Woods. "It is usually a fast-paced dance program, but ours is a slower-paced program to accommodate our seniors."
All area seniors are welcome to participate in the program, even if they do not regularly come to Canton Woods. The cost is $5 per class payable directly to Pomeroy.
Canton Woods Senior Center is located at 76 Canton St. in the village of Baldwinsville. For more information, call 638-4536.
