Pollock first priest from St. Patrick's, Chittenango

On May 29, 2009, Br. Jonah Pollock O.P. will become to first man to be ordained a priest from St. Patrick's Church in Chittenango. The parish is more than 140 years old.

The ordination ceremony will be at St. Dominic's Church in Washington, DC. Br. Pollock will celebrate his first Mass at St. Patrick's at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday June 7.

Br. Pollock is the son of Bart and Mary Pat Pollock of Chittenango. He was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on Feb. 25, 1980. He and his family moved to Chittenango and joined St. Patrick's Church in 1982. He was an altar server, an active member of the St. Patrick's Youth Group, a youth representative on the Parish Council and a member of the youth choir.

Pollock attended Chittenango public schools, graduating from Chittenango High School in 1998. He played on the varsity basketball and tennis teams. He graduated from Franciscan University of Steubenville in 2001. After graduating from college, Pollock taught for two years at Holy Cross Academy in Oneida, where he also coached basketball.

He joined the Dominican Order in 2003. For the past six years, he has been studying and working in various ministries, mostly in the Washington, D.C. area. He was ordained a deacon in January 2008.

There will be a reception in the St. Patrick's Parish Hall immediately following Br. Pollock's first Mass at St. Patrick's on June 7. Everyone is welcome.
