Baseball Rams fall to CBA, crush ESM

Aiming to take charge in the OHSL Freedom division, the Christian Brothers Academy baseball team could do so with successful efforts against its two closest neighbors within the league.

Mike Kitts took charge of Monday's game against Jamesville-DeWitt, mostly shutting down the Red Rams in the course of a 4-1 victory.

Andrew Hughes got to Kitts with a first-inning RBI single, but the CBA ace proceeded to retire 11 of the next 12 batters he faced, giving his teammates time to answer.

In fact, the Brothers tied it in the bottom of the first on Bryant Moore's single that scored Pat Wiese, then scored three times off J-D pitcher Justin Marzella in the bottom of the second. Spencer Dunn's single, just inside the right-field line, scored two runs, and Pat Wiese (who had three hits) added an RBI.

Kitts did the rest, threatened only when J-D put runners on first and third with two outs in the top of the sixth. Unfazed, Kitts struck out Kenneth Schunck, one of nine K's on the afternoon, and finished off a complete game where he allowed just five hits.

J-D didn't fret much about this loss. Instead, it went to East Syracuse-Minoa Tuesday and unloaded on the Spartans in a 24-6 romp.

Both teams got four runs in the first inning alone, but the Rams really won it by stunning ESM with 10 runs in the top of the second, plus a seven-run fifth inning.

John Sheedy had a home run, double and three RBIs. Jack Susman and Anthony Dunn also had three-RBI outings, while Schunck, Mick Cariseo and Mike Gianni drove in two runs apiece. Hughes and Dylan Sacks each drove in one run.
