Eagle Newspapers and the League of Women Voters hosted a public forum for the six candidates running for the Liverpool Center School District Board of Education.
The forum began at 7 p.m. at Salina Town Hall on 201 School Road, Liverpool. Roughly 25 community members attended tonight's forum to hear the candidates' voice their opinions on the current board and their hopes for change in the district's future.
There are three seats opening and one incumbent. All six candidates who patitioned to run for a board position attended tonight's forum.
The six candidates are Jim Kane, Matthew Jones, Patricia Rosier, David Savlov, Charles Shaw and John Woloszyn. Savlov is the current vice president of the board and after seven years serving the district he is running once again.
The candidates responded to questions prepared by moderator-Eagle Newspapers Executive Editor Gary Catt. Plus, community members were given the opportunity to submit questions by postal mail, e-mail or written submissions before the forum commenced.
Some of the main issues directed to the candidates concerned district budgetary cuts, handling state mandates, teacher union give-backs and whether or not the current board or new board should ultimately choose the LCSD superindendent. Individually, each candidate was asked to name what skills they could bring to the board if elected.
Full coverage on week-to-week election updates will be included in The Review as well as bios on each candidate so that community members who didn't attend tonight's forum can stay informed.
