At the annual meeting held in the village of Sylvan Beach at 7 p.m. April 20, Mayor Edward R. Stewart III read the appointments and assignments for the 2009 administration. Joe Clements was appointed Deputy Mayor. Greg Campbell is now the liaison to the Planning/ZBA boards for one year and named to the position of Parks and Recreation for one year. Greg Horan is assigned to aerial spray and insurance, both for one year. All the other positions stayed the same as the previous year. A motion carried to approve the appointments as presented.
The board approved the residents lawn sale weekends to be held in May 15, 16, 17, June 12, 13 14, July 17, 18, 19, August 14, 15, 16 and September 4, 5, and 6. No items are to be left out after 7 p.m. and off-road parking must be provided by the homeowner. There will be no rain dates this year.
Village board meetings will be held on the first Monday of each month at 3 p.m. with the exception of September. That meeting will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday Sept. 8. There will also be a village board meeting held on the third Monday of every month at 7:30 p.m. Village Planning Board Meetings are to be held on the second and forth Monday of each month.
The bathing beach will open for weekends only May 23 through June 28 during the hours of 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Beginning on June 29, lifeguards will be available Sunday through Saturday during the hours of 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.. The beach will be closed for the season on Sept. 8.

Bikes at the Beach -- every Tuesday May 12 through September 8.
Antique Show -- July 11 and 12.
Country Showcase at the Beach (bands) - every Wednesday on the band stand in the park at 7:00 PM beginning on July 9 and will continue through August 26. For a list of the bands please contact the village clerk.
Vettes at the Beach -- July 26.
Canal Fest -- August 8 and 9.
Civil War Re-enactment -- September 5 and 6.
Thursday Night Classic Cars Cruise Night -- May 21 through September 17, located in the village lakefront parking lot.
