Earth Day clean-ups underway in Baldwinsville

Volunteers from Bartlett Tree Experts joined members of the Baldwinsville Women's Garden Club to clean up Canal Park along Marble Street in the village of Baldwinsville this past Saturday. The clean up was a combination of Earth Day and Arbor Day celebrations.

"We're the Arbor Day side and the garden club is the Earth Day side," said Mike Gorham, owner of Bartlett Tree Experts.

Roughly 15 volunteers worked to rake, clear brush and debris out of gardens and trim trees and bushes.

"Caring for trees is very important to keep them safe and structurally sound," Gorham said. "Beautification is very important also."

The combined crews worked through the morning clearing the park out for residents to enjoy this spring and summer. The efforts included a cherry picker from Bartlett used to trim the branches of trees.

"[Bartlett Tree Experts] come and do all this work for [free]," said Nancy Loveland, president of the Women's Garden Club.
