Associated Builders and Contractors has endorses GOP Jennings

The first major endorsement of this year's race for mayor of Syracuse goes to Otis Jennings. The Central New York Regional Council of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) has endorsed Jennings. This is the construction group, which represents merit shop builders, contractors, and associates. ABC believes that Otis Jennings is the right person to rebuild Syracuse.

"We try to support the candidates that support the philosophies we believe are fair for business and workers in New York State," said Rebecca Meinking, president of the Empire State Chapter of ABC. "Being in business requires that you be involved in politics," said Meinking. "Our motto is: get into politics, or get out of business."

This is the first major endorsement in the 2009 race for the office of Mayor of Syracuse.

ABC CNY Regional Vice President Stanley Dean said, "This is one of our most critical endorsements due to the current policies and conditions in the City of Syracuse. We believe that Otis will turn this city around and start heading in the right direction.

"Labor agreements that lock out minorities, women and merit shop contractors must be stamped out; schools that are crucial to certain neighborhoods must be built or renovated (Blodgett, for example).

{Q}We must end the era when capital projects are announced but never completed. Otis Jennings has the experience, the vision, and the wherewithal to take this city in a new direction. We at ABC will support him 100 percent.{Q}"

The Empire State Chapter serves nearly 700 members throughout New York State from its central office in East Syracuse and branch offices in Albany, Buffalo, Rochester and Long Island/Metro NYC.
