Parade corner: Last minute details

The Camillus Memorial Day Parade Committee meets again at 7 p.m. Thursday April 16 in a Conference Room near Mary Ann Coogan's office in the Camillus Town Municipal Building.

While most of the planning is completed, the committee will concentrate on last-minute planning details.

For example, the Committee is awaiting an answer from Fort Drum about its request for the 10th Mountain Division Band to participate in the Parade.

The Committee has its fingers crossed, hoping it hears "yes."

The outstanding West Genesee High School marching band will participate again in the Parade with the excellent West Genesee combined Middle School marching band.

The Committee has received 24 requests already for a star in the Be a Star, Buy a Star program. The goal is to have at least 100 stars fill the board outside Camillus Municipal Building. Each star costs $10, and is a valuable source of funding for the Parade Committee.

For the first time in the history of the parade, a pamphlet will be prepared and distributed to parade attendees.

The pamphlet will list the Grand Marshal's name, Andy Guelfi from Marcellus. The pamphlet will also include the names of the Gold Star Parent, names of the Parade Committee members, and names of individuals and businesses who donated money to the committee but didn't purchase a star in the Be A Star, Buy A Star program.

Questions about the Parade may directed to co-chairman Bernie Bunce at 672-5437 or co-chairman Ed Fletcher 672-3368.

The Parade Corner column regularly appears in the Eagle Observer to remind readers how much time and effort goes into staging the biggest Memorial Parade in Onondaga County. The Camillus Memorial Day Parade will take place Monday May 25 this year.
