Now is the time to record your daily life experiences. With so much change happening in our world, keeping a sketchbook journal is a great way to stay mentally healthy and artistically satisfied. In an upcoming workshop, participants will be learning many ways to record daily experiences using drawing, painting and written reflections. Instructor Kathy Kernan will introduce participants to the wide variety of methods and materials for maintaining a sketchbook journal. She will share her own sketchbooks and assist the participants with their first entries. Weather permitting, time will be spent outdoors so students can also make "en plein air" entries in their journals. A materials list will be provided to all registered participants.
"A sketchbook journal is personal and private, much like a diary. The sketches make you smile when you look back through your journal and reminisce," said Carol Iannitti of MAD Art, Inc. "We are fortunate to have such a talented artist guiding this workshop."
Kernan is an award-winning artist who has exhibited (including several one-woman shows) and taught at a number of venues in the Mohawk Valley, the Thousand Islands and the Adirondacks. Her specialties include watercolors and drawing and she is especially interested in landscapes, still-lifes, and the figure. She is a signature member of the Central New York Watercolor Society. In 2008 her painting won the prestigious Realism in Nature Award in the National Exhibition of American Watercolors, one of the top 3 watercolor exhibitions in the United States. She has taught art all her life both in the schools as a teacher, and most recently for adults in the region. She is an impassioned and prolific sketchbook journalist and received her formal art training from the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn.
