B'ville: Van Buren comes in top

Van Buren Elementary was one of the top three participating schools in Central New York in the Syracuse Symphony Practice Marathon.

Sixteen music students participated in the marathon, raising $480 for the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra after logging a total of 58 hours of practice in one week. The students received pledges from family members and friends for each half-hour they practiced. Due to the students' efforts, Van Buren will receive a free performance from the Syracuse Symphony Ensemble this fall.

The 16 Van Buren students who participated in the marathon are Heidi Allen, Caleb Barron, Evan Biedermann, Carolyn Brussel, Michael Brussel, Lucas Butchko, Cole Christensen, Dominic DiCaprio, Chelsea Dunbar, Cailin Hockey, Maddie Nice, Paxton Potter, Ryan Radicello, Grace Smith, Hunter Wilhelm and Andrew York. Teachers who participated are Brian Franco (band teacher), Rebecca Dusart (orchestra teacher) and Cindy Doback (chorus teacher).
