Radisson's Cub Scout Pack 234 held its annual Pinewood Derby Jan. 24. The Cub Scouts spent weeks designing, cutting, sanding, painting and decorating their cars. Parents set up the pack's track and decorated the Aspen House with racing banners and signs.
After the boys weighed in their cars - there was a five-ounce weight limit -- they were ready to race. Boys cheered for their cars as they zoomed down the track, powered only by gravity. Pack leaders used a computer program to assign random heats and a precision timing device to determine which car placed first, second and third.
After all the races, the red and black car built by Weblos Scout Brett Mooney couldn't be beat. Tiger Cub Scout Tyler Coffey took second place. Tiger Cub Scout Sam Iven took third. All three boys received a trophy at the annual Blue and Gold banquet in March.
The event is one of many fun activities the pack organizes each year. For more information about the pack, visit scoutpack234.com or call Cub master Jack Zahn at 638-0538.
