National Honor Society induction

"I am asking the National Honor Society to be the voice of right at Marcellus High School. I am calling on you to lead by example you will lead by your actions, you will be the epitome of Mustang Pride." With these words John Durkee, Marcellus High School principal, welcomed 2009 National Honor Society inductees to the Marcellus High School National Honor Society Induction Ceremony held in the Groeling Auditorium on March 15.

Heidi Busa, high school science teacher and honor society faculty advisor, introduced the evening's program as parents and family members applauded the exceptional achievements of their respective children. National Honor Society member Jacob Kittleberger spoke of the society's character traits of scholarship, leadership and community service as Carly Annable, Hannah Weeks and Chloe Brittenham lit the society candles that symbolize each trait.

The highlight of the event was the introduction of each Honor Society 2009 inductee. A slide show provided the backdrop as one by one current society members moved to the podium and shared the accomplishments and attributes of each inductee. The level of involvement and the depth of commitment of these gifted young adults resonated with clarity as each new member was introduced. The remarkable talents of the 2009 National Honor Society class are uniquely demonstrated through accomplishments that bridge the areas of academics, music, travel and adventure, visual and performing arts, and most importantly leadership and service to community. Also attending in celebration of this year's honorees were faculty advisor and high school social studies teacher Laura Kuhns, Assistant Principal Deborah Glisson, 7-12 Curriuculum Coordinator Jessica Doctuer and Superintendent of Schools Dr. Craig Tice. A reception sponsored by the Marcellus Academic Club was held following the induction.
